It can be hard for those starting out in the industry to effectively market their services. With so many different outlets, it can be difficult to choose which approach might work best for you.

That’s why this month we’ve decided to create a guide on how to market your care services.

What do you need to consider?

Two of the main things that you need to consider are what your specialities are, and where you’re going to find the most potential clients.

The best way to establish these main points is to put your ideas down on paper. Once they’re there in black and white it gives you a firmer base on which to develop your marketing strategy. Items to note include:

  • Any qualifications you have
  • What past experience you have
  • What training or skills you’ve acquired
  • What you can do that your competition can’t

You also need to consider how you are going to differentiate yourself from those who are in the same profession as yourself. What makes you unique, and what can you offer that no one else does.

Where can you market your services?

Online – Online marketing is one of the most effective ways to promote your skills and experiences. This method of marketing does take a bit of time to implement, but can be extremely rewarding.

Social media websites such as Twitter and Linkedin should be utilised, as they allow you to form relationships and gain connections. Potential clients are more likely to search for you online, so if they can see that you’re taking part in discussions and sharing professional content, they’ll see you in a better light.

At the same time as this, consider taking part in forum discussion. Many individuals ask questions online, and if you can answer their queries, you’ll soon become well known in your specific circle.

Offline – Offline marketing encompasses all things physical. From postcards to fliers, adverts in local magazines to talking at local charity centres, there are so many ways in which you can market your business offline.

If you are asked to talk at an event, then make sure that you have some printed literature with you. This way you can hand them out to attendees before and after the talk; but remember your content details. They must be able to get in contact with you should they have any further questions, or want you to work for them.

Word of Mouth – Another way in which you can market your care services is via word of mouth. Referrals and recommendations are a great way to attract new business, especially if they’re gathered from previous clients and colleagues.

This still ties into establishing your own niche or speciality; the more people that know that you can cater for a specific need, the more likely they are to come to you for help.

 

What types of marketing can you do?

There are plenty of ways that you can market your care services. Technology gives you the opportunity to reach thousands of potential clients, and you can utilise them quite easily.

However, you do need to establish which marketing method is going to gain more engagement with your target audience. Are they more likely to be using social media, or do they regularly attend events throughout the year.

Different types of marketing include:

  • Social media promotion (Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin)
  • Creating your own basic website
  • Search Engine Optimisation on your website (SEO)
  • Advertising in local magazines and newspapers
  • Direct mail campaigns (for example, postcards to local businesses)
