New Year Care Provider Resolutions
When it comes to New Year resolutions, so many people only focus on improving their personal lives. Whilst we don’t think this is a bad idea, we believe that a New Year resolution that applies to your care career can also work.
That’s why this month we’ve outlined some of the potential resolutions you could make in the New Year to help improve the level of care that you give to your patients. Some apply to your personal health, and some apply to your workplace, so sit back, relax and enjoy.
Learn how to delegate and when to say no
By their very nature, care providers always want to give their patients 100% of their time and effort. However, this can often lead to burn out, so it’s important that you learn how to delegate tasks, and when to say no if you’re asked to take on additional work.
Now we don’t mean that you should say no because you’re busy checking your emails, but if you’re already struggling with your workload, taking on that one extra task could have a negative impact on the care you’re providing.
Focus on nutrition and exercise
As we get older, mobility can often become restricted. Whether this is from medical conditions such as arthritis or just from aches and pains, it’s going to happen eventually.
However, it’s vital that your patients are kept active and healthy. Not only does this have physical health benefits, it helps to maintain positive mental health too. Combine these activities with carefully planned, nutritional meals, and your patients will feel even better.
If you’re going to focus on increasing the number of activities you do in the New Year, why not take a look at some of our top recommendations here.
Remember to take care of yourself too
As we’ve already mentioned, it’s important that when you’re caring for others, you still set time aside to look after yourself. One of the most common problems employees face, especially within the care industry, is from workplace stress.
You’re always on the go, you’re always looking after others and at some point, you will just have to stop. If you don’t look after yourself, then the care you provide, and ultimately your patients, is going to suffer.
Embrace new technologies
With technology advancing by leaps and bounds throughout the last decade, it should come as no surprise that the care sector has also been impacted. So why not make one of your New Year care provider resolutions to embrace new technology.
For example, the Care Quest system enables care providers and care homes to promote their expertise and services to an online audience. At the same time as this, care home or home care providers currently signed up have their own unique profile, which includes photos, videos, individual medical expertise and location. Those searching for care in their local area then see these profiles and are able to make contact.

With so many patient schedules, medical routines and regular health checks to take into account, sometimes planning ahead can seem like an uphill struggle. Fortunately for you, there are plenty of additional resources you can use to make this a little bit easier.
Time management tools including Resource Guru, CareZone and Evernote are just some of the digital solutions on offer. They help organise all your patient files, manage resources and will help when coordinating with others.
Focus on marketing your services
Whether you’re struggling to market your care home or promoting your care services, another New Year resolution you could make is to focus on increasing your brand awareness and reach.
From social media to online directories, there are plenty of ways that you can springboard your expertise into the public eye, you just need to sit down and make a full marketing plan before you start.
So there we have it, our top New Year resolutions for care home and care providers. What do you think? Are there any that we haven’t mentioned that you’ll be working towards in the next year?
